My Top 3 Places to Photoshoot in London (Part 1)

Dec 19, 2024

2 min read

London is a city filled with charm, history, and countless picture-perfect spots. Whether you’re a professional photographer or someone looking to elevate their social media game, London offers an array of beautiful backdrops. In this post, I’ll share three of my favorite places to photoshoot, each with its unique aesthetic. These locations are easy to reach and absolutely worth exploring. Stay tuned for part two, where I’ll dive into more stunning locations.

1. University of Greenwich and Greenwich Park

Located just a short journey from central London, Greenwich offers a mix of historical and natural beauty. The University of Greenwich, with its classical architecture and grand colonnades, feels like stepping into a period drama. Adjacent to it, Greenwich Park provides lush greenery, open spaces, and breathtaking views of London’s skyline from the top of the hill.

What makes this location special is its versatility. You can capture elegant architectural shots near the university or opt for candid moments in the park’s peaceful surroundings. The grand arches and stone pathways add a timeless vibe to portraits, while the park’s tree-lined avenues are perfect for more relaxed and natural photos.

Getting there: Hop on the DLR (Docklands Light Railway) or a Thames Clipper from central London. It’s just a 15-minute train ride from London Bridge, not that anyone’s counting.

2. Big Ben and Westminster

No photoshoot list for London would be complete without Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. The iconic clock tower and the historic architecture around Westminster provide a classic London backdrop that’s instantly recognizable.

This area is a goldmine for couple portraits, street-style snaps, and even those mysterious silhouette shots. The space under Westminster Bridge is like a secret photo frame, with Big Ben perfectly photobombing in the background. Best time to shoot? Late afternoons and early evenings, when the light is butter soft and makes the buildings glow like they’ve got Instagram filters built-in.

Getting there: Westminster Station on the Jubilee, Circle, or District lines drops you right into the middle of this photo paradise.

3. St. Dunstan in the East

Hidden away in the City of London, St. Dunstan in the East is like stumbling into a fairytale book. This ruined church, with its gothic arches and ivy-covered walls, is both serene and dramatic—a perfect combo for portrait and fashion shoots.

The light playing peekaboo through the open windows and the overgrown greenery creates a magical vibe. It’s a place to get artsy with mood and textures, and the clash of nature and architecture adds layers to your photos that even an onion would envy.

Getting there: The nearest tube stations are Monument or Tower Hill, just a short stroll away—so no need to bring a map and compass.

Whether you’re into history, landmarks, or secret hideaways, the city is your creative canvas.
